What to Know About the Best Water Tank Level Sensors

Monitoring systems of water include water tank level sensors for water level indicators, which are used to monitor the level of water in a tank in a controlled, regular manner. These sensors are crucial to the maintenance of consistent level measurements, which is beneficial for both long term use and cost efficiency.

Water tank level sensors are a key to managing water levels because these sensors serve a range of beneficial purposes that maintain adequate levels of water in a tank.

Common Tank Sensors Types

There are various types of water level sensors that are suitable to a wide range of purposes and for a wide range of functions. There are two types of sensors that more commonly seen than others. The two most commonly seen, and best sensors are called point level sensors and continuous level sensors.

Point level sensors work by monitoring the water level in the tank and keeping it within a set range of numbers. This type ensures the water does not go above or below a specific point. Continuous level sensors measure the entire volume of liquid in the tank, not just if the liquid goes above or below a set point.

The Difference Between Level Switches and Level Sensors

Many types of sensors serve different, yet important purposes in order to maintain proper levels of water in a tank. A level switch and a level sensor perform functions that are similar; however, the processes by which they operate are different.

The main purpose of a level switch is to consistently measure high or low levels of water throughout various processes. These sensor types are very beneficial water level indicators, as a level switch aids in preventing water levels from reaching extreme low points or extreme high points. This is important for maintaining proper safety and overall cost efficiency, as the risks of damages occurring are greatly decreased.

A level sensor, unlike a level switch, constantly monitors and records water levels. The primary difference is that level sensors operate consistently, while a level switch operates specifically to manage extremely high or low levels of water. The continuous measurement of the tank water levels that these sensors provide is beneficial in situations which require constant measurements of water levels.

Float switches

Float switches function through the use of a float in order to operate a switch. These switches are beneficial as the general purpose of a float switch is to more easily operate a number of other devices. Much like a level switch, float switches are extremely helpful to monitor specific points or extremes of water levels. Should a water level reach a point that is lower or higher than specified, the float switch assists in making this change in water level known among a range of systems.

Often, depending on the material the float switch is composed of, a major benefit of these switches is long term durability. Stainless steel, for example, is one of the best materials for float switches because of its damage resistant properties.
